Kibera residents have started travelling upcountry for December holidays.
This is witnessed during the year especially when schools close.
Unlike other people, the residents revealed on Thursday that they only prefer going upcountry in December.
"The reason why I love travelling upcountry in December is to meet with my entire family. This is a good time for family meetings since many companies allow their employees to rest during December. Other holidays are equally important but not all members in my family are available. We all take our leaves in December to allow us have time to share as a family,’ said Abraham Muliro.
Annette Benson who hails from Khwisero in Kakamega said she prefers spending her December holidays upcountry because Nairobi is ‘too expensive’ in at that time.
"Every person will prefer going home in December because Nairobi life is usually expensive. Business people know that it’s a festive season therefore they hike prices of commodities to favour them. I prefer life in my rural home because it is cheaper," she said.
Victor Ochieng also said the only time he has visits people is in December.
"I am going home not because I want to spend my Christmas holidays there but because my family needs me more. Am always at work and have no time to travel therefore December is my ideal month to meet all my people,’ he said.
