Thika town residents want the police to beef up security as concerns continue to mount over the increasing cases of criminal attacks especially at night.
The residents of Majengo estate in Hospital ward said they have been living in fear as a result of robberies and murder being perpetrated by a criminal gang.
Led by their MCA Mwangi Wamwangi, the residents over the weekend marched all over Thika mourning one of the residents whose body was found dumped in Chania river three days after he went missing.
The incident has occurred slightly less than a week after a shop in the area had been raided and property was stolen by unknown people leaving the shopkeeper with serious injuries.
The residents have also urged the county government to install security lights along the town’s streets and estates to ward of gangs of criminals lurking in the darkness waiting to pounce on unsuspecting people.
The police have said that they are on top of things and patrols have been intensified. The Thika OCS Robert Okinya addressed the mourners and said that the police were following crucial leads that would enable them to apprehend a gang of four men that have been on the prowl terrorising residents in the town.
