Political intrigues between North Mugirango MP Charles Geni and Nyamira speaker Joash Nyamoko have taken a new dimension after the former called for the resignation of the speaker.
Nyamoko narrowly lost to Geni in 2013 elections before being elected as speaker of the county assembly and his increased political activities to the constituency have not gone down well with the first time legislator.
On Monday Geni who accompanied his Kitutu Masaba counterpart Timothy Bosire to Iranya Primary to hand over a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) cheque, challenged the speaker to resign and join politics.
“Our county speaker has flouted the law in a number of occasions by engaging in political activities contrary to the law. He has a duty to head county assembly and coordinate MCAs in their legislative and oversight role and not me," Said Geni.
"It’s time that he vacated the speaker’s seat to face me and leave the seat to some serious fellow,” he added.
He questioned the speakers role in leading the assembly which he said was a disgrace to the county due to its inability to oversight the county government to required standards.
“We have heard of corruption in the county government but Nyamoko has failed to lead his team to combat the economic crimes against our people," said Geni.
"We know of the Sh7 million gate, skewed employment and ghost tenders which the speaker should deal with but instead he is keen to run against me in 2017," stated the Legislator.
"We want an effective county assembly but he has failed to live up to expectations of Nyamira people. Let him resign and face me in 2017,” added the MP.
Nyamoko has since dismissed the claims as ‘panic’ and maintained that he is committed to achieving his goals as assembly’s speaker before his tenure expires.
“I don’t know why he always panics when I visit my home constituency. I am a resident of North Mugirango and nothing can prevent me from working for my people," said Nyamoko.
"My role in the assembly is to moderate MCAs and make judgments when necessary. He understands the role of the speaker and if it’s fighting corruption, then it must be in the assembly and not the executive,” said Nyamoko via the phone.
