Kisii Water and Sanitation Company workers have been challenged to ensure the town and its environs is adequately served with water.

Kisii is synonymous with water problems which reportedly results from poor maintenance of water pipes.

Speaking at the company’s offices on Sunday when he paid them a courtesy call, deputy governor Joash Maangi challenged the workers to be proactive in dealing with water crisis.

“This company has a potential of serving millions of people with clean water but it’s sad that we still experience water shortages and crisis because of failed pipes which should be fixed in time. As workers, you must always work round the clock to ensure that people are served with water in a consistent manner,” he said.

He also urged the company’s management to commence the process of replacing old pipes which he linked to unprecedented leakages which lead to loss of millions of liters of water.

“Our piping systems must be refurbished by replacing the old ones. The county has invested in water and I think the work of replacing them can be done and combat the menace of losing millions of liters to waste. We want to see every person enjoying the water service sin the town and its environs. As workers, you are paid to do the maintenance and that should be done,” he said.

Maangi also said that the county government is in the process of ensuring every household is served with clean water by the end of 2017.

“We are in the process of ensuring people are served with clean water by 2017 and that can only be done when you are able to manage a populous region like Kisii town. Ensure the water shortage problems are handled effectively and expeditiously always,” he said.
