Kibera residents on Wednesday appealed to the Devolution and Planning Cabinet secretary nominee Mwangi Kiunjuri to complete the projects started by his predecessor Anne Waiguru.

Waiguru stepped down on Saturday citing health reasons.

A section of youths who had been hired under the National Youth Service programme to give the slum a new look appealed to Kiunjuri not to let them down.

“The job was our source of income and daily bread. Since it was put on hold, we have suffered a lot because we do not have anywhere to get money. We have been struggling to make ends meet. Life has been tough and some of us have families to feed. I would like to call upon the new CS to bring back the NYS project. We as youths will work even harder to change Kibera,’’ said Edwin Okumu.

“I now know that there is someone in the Ministry of Devolution. I request the new Cabinet Secretary to restart the NYS project. We will support him and Kibera will change for good,” added Rose Waweru.
