A section of families from Riakemuma village of Giasaiga sub-location in Sameta sub county are experiencing sleepless nights following invasion by bedbugs.
Members of the affected families have appealed to community health workers to come to their aid and ensure that their households are fumigated to get rid of the bugs.
Speaking to this Hivisasa writer on Thursday morning in the area, Mama Florence Kemuma who is one of the victims lamented that life at night had become unbearable as the bedbugs struck in the middle of the night depriving them of their comfort.
"As the affected families, we appeal to community health workers within this jurisdiction to come on board and have the households of the affected families fumigated to get rid of the threatening insects which usually strike at night thus denying us sleep," lamented Kemuma.
Justus Kinara, another affected villager regretted that after working for long hours in the day, he could not enjoy sleeping at night since the bedbugs struck when he was at the peak of his sleep making it difficult for him to rest enough before dawn.
Kinara lamented that their improvised mechanisms of locally fighting the insects through pouring hot water on the bed frames where the insects hide before striking at night had failed to bear fruits.
“We have tried to fight the insects through pouring hot water on the bed frames where they hide during the day before striking at night but it has all been in vain. We are now appealing for rescue from the health officials in the area," stated Kinara.
