Motorists and other road users have been urged to exercise extra caution during this festive season to prevent loss of lives through accidents.

Muhoroni MP Onyango K’Oyoo said motorists should drive cautiously and shun high speeds to minimise accidents.

K’Oyoo called on motorists and pedestrians to be careful on the roads as they travel to various parts of the country.

In his Christmas message on Tuesday, he said many people have died on the road due to recklessness and speeding.

Kenyans travelling upcountry should be extra cautious as most accidents happen during the festive season, he added.

"We want the motorists should be careful on the road while travelling as most accidents happen during the Christmas time and I ask the traffic police to be vigilant," K’Oyoo said.

He warned the motorists against speeding and drink driving. “We called upon the traffic police to enforce the new traffic laws to minimize loss of lives through road accidents,” he said.

K’Oyoo asked Inspector Governor Joseph Boinnet to deploy more traffic officers to ensure full adherence of traffic rules.

He attributed the rising number of accidents to careless driving and speeding.

The MP asked Kenyans to pray for security forces who are performing various duties within and outside the borders.

K’Oyoo called on Kenyans to think of the less privileged this Christmas.

He said Kenyans should remember the poor as most have been hit by the harsh economy.

He warned youth to avoid drugs and alcohol.

“It is the high time that we think of the poor and the elderly and not focus on ourselves as this is what Kenya needs for unity," he said.

He called on Kenyans to use the festive season to unite ahead of 2017 general election.

K’Oyoo said Kenya requires unity and challenged on politicians to preach peace.
