Ruaka Town residents have lauded First Lady Margret Kenyatta for her beyond Zero campaign aimed at curbing mortality rates in the country.

The residents said that the first lady's initiative has reduced mortality rates since it was introduced.

Speaking to this writer on Monday, the residents lauded the first lady saying she has a passion for mothers and kids.

“The first lady has shown her passion and desire to end child mortality rates in Kenya through her Beyond Zero campaign,” said Winfred Kamau.

Ms Kamau said that the initiative by the first lady needs the support of every Kenyan.

“Mothers have a reason to smile as mortality rates have reduced thanks to the initiative by the first lady,” she said.

Joan Mweria, a resident in Ruaka also lauded the first lady saying that her idea has saved thousands of pregnant mothers and children below the age of five in the country.

“Through her Beyond Zero clinics, pregnant women can now access free treatment,” she said.

Ms Mweria urged Kenyans, corporate organisations and also the international community to support measures aimed at improving life and fighting diseases just like the Beyond zero campaign.

The third edition of the Beyond Zero First Lady Marathon was held on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium with thousands of Kenyans participating.

The 21, 10 and 5 Km races saw Kenyans, government officials and other dignitaries participate.

According to organisers of the event at least 70,000 people took part in the marathon that saw a section of roads in the city closed for the better part of Sunday.

The Beyond zero Marathon is an initiative by the first lady aimed at reducing child mortality rates in the country.

Speaking after the marathon, the first lady said that mortality rates had significantly reduced in the past two years.

She appealed for more support from Kenyans, the government and stakeholders towards the campaign that aims to curb mortality rates.
