Ruiru legislators have come out strongly against the demolitions that were conducted on Wednesday night in the area and they have called upon the residents to abscond from paying the levies to the county government.
Led by the Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo and the Biashara ward MCA Joe Mutuga, the legislators faulted the security officers among them the OCPD who was present in the press briefing held in the area on Thursday afternoon saying that they were hired to escort the hired demolishers.
Gathogo told the OCPD Isaac Thuranira that he is mandated to secure the people of Ruiru and not the goons that are being hired to destroy public property without a prior notice.
“Mr. OCPD, your work in Ruiru is to ensure the public and their property are safe from any damage and if not that then you are in the wrong station. You cannot work in support of the law breakers and call for support from anyone here,” she said in anger.
She told the traders that they should not pay the county government any penny if they are not compensated adding that the government is looking for defences by blaming the incident on the highway authority.
The MCAs from the area led by Mutuga called on the residents to remain calm as they consult with regards to why the county government had taken such an action without a notice to the victims.
