Next year's elections are around the corner and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is getting ready through the registration of voters which officially starts on Monday.

In the same breath, those aspiring for various political seats are on their marks too, and Nakuru County is no exception.

Sources close to some of the aspirants seeking the post of governor of Nakuru County have revealed that they are facing an enormous task in choosing their running mates.

The aspirants' task of choosing a favourable running mate requires a lot of balancing in terms of the community, gender and popularity of the individual.

The most populous communities within Nakuru town are Kikuyu and Kalenjin, though there are also other minorities though when added together, can have a bargaining power.

According to an aide to one of the aspirants, they are considering a woman from the other populous community so as to appeal to gender as well as balance in terms of the two populous communities.

Another challenge is that the person who will eventually become the deputy governor, if the team is elected, needs to be popular within his community so as to deliver bloc vote.

"We are also considering the interests of the minority and we are bringing all of them on board," revealed the aide.
