Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee government will only redeem its image and trust among Kenyans if he takes a bold move and sack embattled Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru, an opposition MP has said.
Ms Waiguru’s docket has been hitting headlines over alleged corruption in National Youth Service and the recent controversy on alleged fraudulent procurement, making national assembly to subject her for probe.
Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka who was addressing residents of Mosocho on Wednesday said the Jubilee government was losing trust significantly and it was now time for the president to crack the whip on the embattled minister.
“It is wrong for a cabinet secretary to continue holding the nation at ransom for all these months for mega corruption scandals. Initially I thought it was political but she even confirmed herself on the loss of millions at NYS and now the same is happening in her office on procurement. She should resign voluntarily or get axed by the president to redeem the government’s image,” he said.
Mr Onyonka, a perceived ODM rebel who has been supporting the CS, said his certain change of heart was for the sake of fighting corruption without setting boundaries.
“Corruption is a menace that can bring the economy of a nation down. I think she has been mentioned repeatedly and it’s time for the President to take an action. We saw some ministers stepping aside over scandals and it will therefore be discriminatory if we just let Ann go even with those allegations of a great magnitude. Her time to leave government has come and head of state is delaying to relieve her duties,” he added.
Mrs. Waiguru had on Wednesday denied vehemently on corruption allegations rocking her office and vindicated her on PAC by shifting blame to her Principal Secretaries.
