Rift Valley Traffic Commandant Mary Omari has said road accidents at the Salgaa trading centre have gone down owing to a raft of measures put in place.
Omari cited the erection of speed bumps at the busy road saying they contributed to the decrease in accidents.
“The government has erected speed bumps at Salgaa trading center in a bid to reduce road accidents," the traffic commandant said.
Speaking Monday to the media in Nakuru, Omari said the department will continue inspecting public service vehicles to minimise road carnage during the December holidays.
“We are committed to ensuring the public service vehicles adhere to traffic rules during this festive season," said Omari.
She also said the National Transport and Safety Authority has rolled out awareness campaigns to sensitise drivers on the need to adhere to road rules to tame carnage.
"NTSA has been conducting awareness campaigns to ensure no live is lost through road accidents," said Omari .
She further urged drivers to ensure the provision of safe, reliable and efficient road transport service is respected.
“Drivers have a responsibility to ensure the rules pertaining to roads are respected especially the safety of passengers," said Omari.
