Kamenu School Leavers Forum will engage in a community clean up exercise in Makongeni Phase Four and Five this weekend as a way of giving back to the society.

Speaking on Sunday after a meeting with the group members, the interim chairman of the newly formed group of college and university school leavers, Joseph Njoroge, said that the exercise will kick off on Friday at Phase Four and proceed to Phase Five on Saturday.

"The exercise will involve all the current 35 members of the group and other volunteers from the two estates who may wish to join us. The exercise means a lot to us, being our maiden voluntary community activity,” said Njoroge.

Members of the group were also delighted to be able to give back to the community.

"I can't wait for Friday to do the work. For a long time we unemployed youths have been wondering what we can do to give back to our society. Somebody opened our eyes and now we feel that there's something we can do to make a difference in the community,” said Jane Mugure, a member.

Patrick Kinyanjui, also a member, said the clean up exercise was a perfect opportunity to rid the area of garbage which has been a major problem to residents.

"I am a resident of Phase Five and garbage has been a major issue. On Saturday we will be able to prove to my colleagues in the estate that we can stay in a clean environment if we decide to do so,” he said.
