School heads in Kisii have been urged to avoid the old habit of sending children back home because of the lack of school fees by Governor James Ongwae.

This comes a day after students from a Nyamira school attempted suicide after they were allegedly sent away from school by one of their teachers.

Speaking at Gionseri Secondary School on Thursday, Maangi said students should be confined to the school compound as a way of preventing them from engaging in uncouth activities.

''Sending students home because of  fees during school days exposes them to a number of unprecedented dangers such as drug addictions, premarital sex and a host of others. We should do away with that culture,'' he said.

Maangi said school managements should come with revised rules that should compel parents and guardians to report to the institutions in specific days to monitor the progress of the learners and clearing school fees.

''I think it will be justifiable if the management comes with specific days in a week or month in which parents and guardians should report and monitor the progress of their children,'' he said.

He also urged the school administration, through the office of the headmaster, to consider calling the homes of any student in case there is an emergency to be handled instead of sending the learner home without notifying their parents.
