Gatundu North constituents have been advised to properly scrutinise politicians who are eyeing various elective posts in the region, to ensure they elect competent leaders in the next general election.

Moses Muiruri a human rights officer based in Kamwangi, Kiambu County advised them to ensure they elect people who can effectively represent them at various levels.

He gave the example of a member of parliament’s post, saying it requires a person who can properly represent and champion for the interests of his or her people at the national level to effectively enhance their socio-economic growth.

"If you can clearly look at the development progress in Gatundu North, you will wonder what Gatundu residents look for in a leader. You will wonder when the sub county will develop," Mwangi said.

Muiruri said on Tuesday that a leader needs to be someone who can be entrusted with public resources hence the need for proper scrutiny to avert possible wastage should inept persons be elected into such offices.

"Be observant and fully scrutinise the interests and intentions of potential parliamentary aspirants to avoid remaining regretful for five years," advised Mwangi.

Speaking at his office on Tuesday, the human rights officer also challenged those eyeing various posts in the general election to first consult their conscience to establish whether they really fit in their positions of interest.

"A leader should be someone strong enough to stand out and champion for the interests of his people irrespective of their political challenges in the National Assembly," he said.

"I'm not speaking as on a politician point of view but constituents need to consider the ability of a leader and not his education. Change is subject to better leadership and this starts at the ballot," he added.

Mwangi however revealed that he was not ready to join politics saying that his call was to serve the interests of the minority.
