A few weeks ago, Machakos Boys High school and 23 other secondary schools in Machakos county benefited from free internet for schools program.

The program that is being carried out by Airtel Kenya, a telecommunication company, aims at reaching 1 million students across the country by the end of 2046.

While having free internet will make e-learning a lot easier, care should be taken to avoid cases of wrong content consumption.

Teachers, who will be responsible for the usage of internet in those schools that will be connected should monitor closely what sites the students are visiting.

'Garbage in, garbage out,' is a familiar saying concerning usage of computers and internet.

Students, if not closely monitored, would be tempted to visit pornographic sites, or download movies or even spend the whole time streaming and listening to music videos all the time.

The internet harbours a lot of positive and negative information and therefore extra care should be taken to make sure the students consume the right content from the web.
