Thika sub-county security committee met with the Mount Kenya University (MKU) administration in a move to set up security strategies during the 9th graduation ceremony on Friday in Happy Valley Grounds.
The ceremony is highly guarded with the parents, graduates and Thika residents flocking the institution’s pavilion by 6:00am.
Most of the students could be seen in their gowns ready for the exercise at dawn as the security at the gate was tight with the police and the National Youth Service (NYS) frisking everyone that entered the pavilion premises.
The hawkers have also flocked the graduation ceremony grounds although they are not authorised to get in the premises in order to ease congestion at the grounds.
The VC Stanley Waudo while speaking on Thursday from the institution told the press that he has assurance from the Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia, Thika DAPC Samuel Ombonya, OCS Robert Okinya, Deputy DAPC Dismus Kimathi among other police inspectors that security will be highly boosted through the duration of the ceremony.
“Security has been assured to us by the security team and we are sure everything will be alright. I advice the students to come in large numbers to the event which will begin at 9:00 am in the morning thus I appeal them to be settled as early as 8:00 am in the morning,” Waudo said.
