Youths across the country have been urged to unite and tackle various social, economic and political challenges they face.

Speaking at a public function in Birongo, Kisii County on Tuesday, Kakamega Nominated Senator Daisy Nyongesa said unity is fundamental for the youths to tackle various problems facing them.

“As a fellow youth, I want to advise you against being disunited. We can only challenge the socio-economic and political problems facing us if we remain united. Some of us are so desperate to an extent we get misused by certain politicians for their personal gains,” she said.

The ODM nominated senator urged youths to form economic empowerment groups to get funding from both the national and county governments as well as from well-wishers.

“We understand that there are no white collar jobs and our intelligence is crucial. Let’s form groups that can easily get support from governments and well-wishers. That is the way out of poverty that many of us are dealing with every day and that can only be done if we remain united,” she added.

She urged youths to join political parties to bargain for representation so that they can effectively fight for their rights without depending on old aged people.

“We cannot run away from politics and this is the time for us to join political parties so that we can advance our agenda by seeking elective positions. Our representation in both Parliament and County Assemblies should be increased by a number of us venturing into politics to define our destiny by using our numbers to advance youths' plight,” she said.
