Nyamira County residents witnessed a rare occurrence at the county headquarters on Tuesday during the issuance of books donated by the county government to a number schools in the area.
Senator Mong’are Okong’o, who has rarely been seen at a public platform with Governor John Nyagarama since 2013, publicly vowed to work with the county boss.
The duo has been meeting occasionally during sittings at the Senate committee on Public Accounts when the county boss was summoned over graft claims on three occasions.
Mongare has been leading an onslaught on the county leadership accusing it of mismanagement, graft and nepotism.
Speaking during the event, Mong’are said the remaining period before the next polls was critical for the county leaders to work as a team to realise development that he says has stalled in many regions.
“I must admit that this is my first time to share a platform with him (Nyagarama) on a serious public function and as I have said before, I am ready to work with the leadership to spur growth among our people. We have little time left and as county leaders we recently agreed to work with the county government,” he said.
He, however, urged the county leadership to involve other leaders in making key decisions that affect the lives of area residents.
“I just want to challenge the governor to be engaging us because we also represent people when making critical decisions that affect people. Collective decisions are fundamental in any leadership,” he added.
The move was lauded by a section of residents who called the decision ‘timely’ and vowed to support the two leaders.
