Nominated Senator Janet Ongera has dismissed claims that she was undermining Bobasi Member of parliament Stephen Manoti’s work by allegedly launching duplicate projects in the Kisii County.

Ongera who was speaking on Sunday at Nyangusu said all leaders, whether elected or nominated had a right to work for their constituents to spur development.

This comes a day after Manoti accused the flamboyant senator of undermining him by launching projects to counter his work at the region, citing giving area youths free motorbikes and also giving out free vehicles (three) to help area residents get medical treatment as part of emergency measures.

“I don’t think someone has a right to accuse me of promoting development to our people. Whether the projects are duplicated or not, it does not matter. What people need is services and as one of the leaders, I am mandated to help them in any manner,” she said.

Ongera said the critics should not be scared of her contribution to the society and insisted that time for elections was far hence she was not ready to declare an interest to any seat.

“I don’t know why they (critics) are scared of me. I want to inform my friend and MP Manoti that we are all here to work for the people. When time comes for elections, people will know what I will be contesting for, but for now, it is proper if we stopped complaining,” she said.

She said her series of activities in the constituency and larger Kisii County would continue as planned and vowed to work closely with the residents.

“I am determined to help my people and no one should intimidate me. It is my right and I am ready to defend it. Whether or not I am running for the MP seat as they are saying, it should not be their concern,” she added.
