A 47-year old woman has committed suicide in Membly area of Ruiru sub-county in a mysterious incident that shocked the family and residents of the area.

Alice Njeri was found hanging on a rope in a garage next to her homestead by her neighbors on Friday evening at around 5:00pm.

According to the husband of the deceased Mr Peter Waithaka, Njeri had been suffering from high blood pressure for years and the disease had been a discomfort to her life as she had lost hope of living.

He told this writer in an exclusive interview that since 2008, his deceased wife has been ailing and when the disease persisted she lost hope to an extent of absconding from her medication as a way of committing suicide.

“She tried dodging the medication but I forced her to take them. It has been many years of suffering and I have been doing my best to advise her not to commit suicide. I have been living in fear that when I leave for job she might take her life,” he said.

He also said that after delivering her twins in 2007, she developed many diseases and since then she has been under medication and under house treatment. He added that the deceased has left four children.

Confirming the incident, Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira said that the cases of suicide have been increasing among the women in the outskirts of Ruiru and added that they are probing on the incident to establish the truth behind Njeri’s death.

He added that the family has revealed that she has suffered for long in illness but they will probe on the incident before concluding the motive behind the act by the deceased.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral home awaiting post-mortem.
