Residents at Sironga area along Kisii- Nyamira Road in Nyamira on Wednesday evening, erected makeshift bumps on all busy roads to curb speeding motor vehicles.

The decision to erect the bumps came after an accident occurred on Monday, where two children and four pedestrians were involved.

Speaking during the exercise, John Monyenye, who is the area Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman said that in the past, many children and adults have been victims to hit and run accidents hence, the building of makeshift bumps by the area residents.

He also urged parents to take full responsibility of their children and monitor them to ensure they playing in locations where they are safe from accidents.

The chairman urged the county government to put in place measures to tame the rogue road users so that they can use the designated areas for their vehicles, and not where they could endanger the lives of people.

One shop owner in the area ,Eric Kenyoro, said that most drivers do not understand that the road is always used by other people hence risking their lives.
