Six women groups on Monday benefitted from sewing machines donation courtesy of a nongovernmental organisation called I Love Africa.
The sponsor Nong Hyup, from South Korea, donated 12 the sewing machines to the groups at an event held at the CDF hall and attended by Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
Hyup advised the women to form more groups and think of other ways to increase their incomes.
“Women should always think on how to improve the society. They should always stay focused and be role models to the youths in society. How do you achieve this? It’s simple, just think of other ways of getting money. Work extra hard to make all ends meet,” she said.
Among the beneficiaries was Kevin Oyuki from Nyaulisa women group in Katwekera.
Oyuki said he was not ashamed to work with women since they are equally important in society.
“I decided to join the women’s group so that I can learn and gain more. Today, I have gained more. I have received a sewing machine which I never thought of buying,” said Oyuki.
