Laikipia County Assembly Speaker Patrick Mariru has called on both national and county governments to allocate adequate funds meant for bursaries to counties.

He Spoke during a public lecture organized by Laikipia county university students at Kisii University on Thursday. 

He talked on county governance and education. Mariru said devolution was meant to bring resources close to the people in counties. 

"Let resources come to counties especially in education, to allow students get bursaries and loans," he said. 

The Speaker encouraged needy university students to apply for county bursaries that would aid them to finish their studies. 

He challenged MCAs to be objective when dealing with bursaries in their wards. 

He condemned acts of nepotism and corruption that had been reported in some counties. 

However, Mariru added that MCAs deserved more allocation of funds for education advancement since they have the knowledge of the conditions facing schools and colleges in their wards.
