Almost a month since the controversial decision by a section of Kisii and Nyamira leaders to visit Deputy President William Ruto at his Sugoi home, the county assembly speaker of Nyamira who led the delegation from the region has opened up on the meeting.

The meeting was boycotted by all four MPs from the county and other high ranking officials leaving Speaker Joash Nyamoko to lead a delegation of a host of MCAs to see the DP.

Speaking on Monday at Kiabonyoru ward, Nyamoko said leaders were free to meet and discuss matters development, and blamed MPs from the county for being an impediment to development.

“We received an invitation from a top leader in the country and we had to honour it. We went to the DP's home to discuss development and not politics as its being perceived. Our MPs who should be in the front-line on matters development are dragging us behind and this is the time to wake up and work for the people,” he said.

Mr Nyamoko said the meeting had realised a number of development bargains for the national government saying two major roads will be completed before the next elections in 2017.

“It’s not bad to be in opposition because I am also an elected speaker by opposition Cord which is the government in Nyamira County. Working with leaders from the national government isn’t a bad idea and this is the time to do it. I am happy that Chabera-Chepilat Road will be done so is the Metamaywa-Kebirigo Road as an outcome of the meeting,” he said.

He urged residents to shun divisive politics and support leaders who are ready to spearhead development in the region.

“Let’s shun divisive politics. The issue of Cord or Jubilee should emerge in 2017, this is the time for development,” he said.
