Few days after Governor John Nyagarama dismissed pressure from MCAs to handover the famous Nyagarama Taskforce report for discussion in the assembly, county speaker has directed the public accounts committee to start fresh investigations in departments accused of graft.

Mr Nyagarama had slammed the assembly members who mounted pressure on the executive to submit report for discussion in the assembly saying the report belonged to executive for implementation.

Speaker Joash Nyamoko on Wednesday dismissed calls from a section of MCAs to constitute an independent commission that would also investigate the alleged graft in the county government and submit report for debate but instead challenged the county’s PAC to start fresh investigations.

“It will be unconstitutional for me to constitute a committee to investigate the executive but the PAC has the mandate to summon officials who are accused of graft and make a report for adoption in the house,” he responded to a question from Manga MCA Peter Maroro.

He directed the Ezra Mochiemo led committee to make an official report to the house on allege massive graft in the county government in two weeks’ time before the house goes for December recess.

“Because majority of you are demanding accountability, it’s my directive that Mochiemo(Ezra) to take up the matter and summon individuals who have been accused of graft and bring a detained report to the house in two weeks’ time just before recess,” he said.

He ruled the MCAs out of order for persistently putting the executive on toes to submit the taskforce report.

“I think it’s not our business to call for submission of the taskforce report. It was an executive arrangement yet we are also an independent entity. The taskforce report on corruption belongs to the executive and we have to respect that,” he said.
