Spiritual leaders have condemned the move by county government to demolish structures in Keroka last week.

They were speaking yesterday at a church service in Kisii.

They have strongly condemned the act and fault the government for having not sorted to negotiate with the residents before going on with the demolitions.

Led by Father Hillary Ngeno and George Odhiambo, the spiritual leaders condemned the lack of consultation by the county government and asked the county leadership to engage the residents in a dialogue.

“That is very unfortunate of our county government which went on with demolitions at Keroka leading to losing of property worth millions," said Ngeno.

"They should have involved the local residents of Keroka and discussed on the ways of compensation, give them ample time to move their property or even bring down their structures properly," added Ngeno.

They said the incident sends a bad picture of the leaders in power.

“This is sending a very bad picture of our county government out there," said Odhiambo.

"The locals also who chose the government will lose hope in it which is very bad," he added.

"The government should now hold meetings with residents of Keroka to address the issue," he said.
