Ruiru lawmaker Esther Gathongo has accused her rivals eyeing Ruiru parliamentary seat in the 2017 general election of spreading propaganda about her.

Speaking when she disbursed bursary funds to beneficiaries at Ruiru CDF hall on Thursday, the MP alleged that some people who are seeking to vie for the Ruiru seat were tarnishing her name.

Ms Gathongo said it's bad for politicians to spread lies about her instead of selling their agenda to the people.

“Anyone who wants votes or seeking to vie for a seat should engage with the people and stop maligning my name,” she said.

She alleged that some politicians were spreading rumors that she borrowed Sh30 million to drill boreholes at Gikumari and Kiratina in Ruiru.

Ms Gathongo said that she got the funds from the national government that she used to drill the boreholes.

The MP said that she will not be intimidated, adding that Ruiru people will decide who to elect come 2017.

Ms Gathongo who was with Othaya MP Mary Wambui said that she will continue to push for development.

She urged residents to register as voters for them to participate in the forthcoming 2017 general election.
