Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has warned County ODM Chairman Ayiecho Olweny against soiling the county's image by claiming that a section of area youths are after his life.

Raguma who spoke on Saturday during the burial of former ODM Vice Chairman Dave Okwach said Kisumu was peaceful and those saying they are targeted for attack were soiling the name of the county.

"The said violence is only in radios. Nobody is planning to attack one another. Those telling you (Ayiecho) that people are planning to attack you are just enticing you so that you give them 'protection fee'," said Ranguma.

Ayiecho had last week claimed that a section of his opponents had planned to attack him, warning him not to attend Okwach's burial.

The former Muhoroni MP had battled for he party's county chairmanship position against the late Okwach in a grass root election which was marred with violence.

Ayiecho was later announced as the county chair with Okwach deputising him, a situation which has seen sour relationship between the camps which supported Ayiecho against Okwach's camp.

Ranguma has however said Ayiecho's attack claims are untrue and paints Kisumu as a den of violence.

He said; "Since I joined Kisumu politics I have experienced the same. People come to you to convince you that you give them some money to protect you fro attacks or from being shut down in public functions."

The governor took the opportunity to urge Kisumu residents to turn up in large numbers and register as voters to ensure Cord leader Raila Odinga becomes president in 2017.

"Reports are indicating low turn out for voter registration. Let us move with speed and register instead of waiting for the last minute rush," he said.
