Students from Nakuru County have been advised to prioritise technical subjects and courses.
County education executive Francis Mathea on Friday called on students to embrace various technical courses and subjects noting it was the surest way of spurring economic development in the county and beating joblessness.
Speaking in Nakuru, the minister also warned that many students risked missing out on very lucrative opportunities because they had developed apathy for technical courses, a factor he admitted, formed the main requirements for the job market.
"Our students are ever complaining that courses and subjects involving mathematics or abstract reasoning are not the best for them yet these are some of the things employers look for. Besides, we have reached a point in our economy where individuals who show exceptional skills in such subjects are the ones in demand," he said.
He, however, reiterated that his ministry was not out to discriminate against art based students adding that they also stand to reap big if they are keen on their studies.
Mathea added that the ministry was also working on various initiatives to help nurture youth talents in the county and called on the youth to take advantage of such opportunities once they are unveiled.
