Lecturers still withholding marks for students expected to graduate on December 11 at Kisii University have been given an ultimatum of two weeks to comply or face legal battles with the institution.

The announcement comes days after a number of students expected to be graduating put the institution’s management to task to explain the delay experienced in different faculties concerning completion of final transcripts ahead of graduation.

Institution’s Vice Chancellor Prof John Akama Thursday denied claims that the institution had not complied with their payment obligations and gave the tutors in question an ultimatum of two weeks.

He said the finance department had cleared debts owed by the institution to the lecturers and urged them to submit the missing marks to avoid a possible court battle.

“I am really perturbed that it’s less than two months to graduation yet some students who completed studies as early as December 2014 have not gotten their final transcripts. We have cleared with them (lecturers) and it is almost three months since I ordered payments. They only have two weeks to submit the marks or face us in court,” he said.

The VC called for relative calmness from affected students but insisted that his management was not ready to change its financial policy regarding part time lecturers.

“I want to promise that you will graduate because we have communicated to the tutors in question. The tradition of the university is that we pay part time lecturers after they teach, mark and compile results and that will still remain the same,” he added.
