Persons living with disabilities in Subukia Constituency are geared for major empowerment programmes through the Affirmative Action Social Fund which Nakuru woman representative Mary Mbugua has promised to allocate them.

Speaking during a forum for PLWDs in the constituency Sunday at AIC Church in Kabazi, Mbugua said the disabled have a chance to prove their worth through undertaking different projects of their choice.

She urged them to continue forming groups and registering them to enable her office allocate them funds for development in their projects.

“Affirmative Action Social Fund is now here and for me, my key agenda is to empower those who have various disabilities and help them better their lives and prove that they too can build Nakuru,” she said.

Mbugua also told them that besides being in a group, the money could still reach them if they are organised as a community based organisation.

Mary Mwenje, a resident of Kabazi thanked the woman rep saying they have been waiting for such initiatives by the government to empower them.

“We have been asking so many times why the government has no programmes for us but it good that AASF is here. Personally, I am in a group of seven and we have a mega poultry project rearing kienyeji chicken and the funds couldn’t come at a better time,” she said.
