Residents in Syokimau-Katani in Machakos county have appealed to the Machakos county government to repair or tarmac the roads serving them to their homes from Mombasa road.

Since the beginning of the heavy rains, roads have been extremely damaged therefore becoming impassable leading to most residents being stranded on their way to or from work. It has has forced them to go deep into their pockets to raise funds for repair of the roads. This remains as a shock to them as they wonder whether that is what is called maendeleo chap chap by the county government.

They also appealed to area MCA Michael Mutua to present their petition to the county assembly for discussion and implementation. They said that tractors were hired to repair the road but that it was left incomplete leading to continued damage by heavy rains.

The residents association chairman Humprey Odhiambo said that they have not received any help from the Machakos county administration or from El-Nino funds and that has made them very annoyed. The residents claim that they have to use longer routes to get to their homes.
