Nyamira parents and guardians have been asked to cooperate for polio jab among their children.

The exercise will take place between December 5-9 this year.

Speaking in Nyamira town on Thursday, the chief officer for health, Douglas Bosire said they are targeting 110,000 children in the five-day campaign.

He told parents to defy any call against the polio immunisation, saying there no side effects proved yet noting the jab is important in prevention against deformities.

He said health officers will traverse the county to ensure all children under the age of five years are vaccinated with polio.

“We were targeting 110,000 children in Nyamira County who are below the age of five years for the polio vaccination. There is no problem or side effect yet discovered related to the polio vaccination. Therefore, parents should ignore any calls dispelling the campaign aimed at salvaging the health of their children,” he warned.

The chief officer wondered that innocent Kenyans were being hoodwinked on the polio vaccination saying its important in preventing related deformities among children.

He noted most cases of clubfoot are idiopathic but suggested polio immunisation would help cut down incidents of children born with the foot deformity.

The Catholic Church has been at the centre of controversy after its clergy on August this year, during another polio campaign, sensationally alleged that the polio vaccine was laced with family planning elements. It has been calling on independent tests to verify its safety.
