Police officers were granted more time to hold a terror suspect in custody to enable them complete instigations.

Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Nicholas Njagi granted the application filed by investigating officers seeking to detain Mr Ikrima Mohammed Shosi who was facing charges of allegedly killing a senior intelligence officer.

The accused was arrested last week at Casablanca day and night club by Anti-Terror Police Unit officers.

He is being accused of targeting security forces after detectives linked him to the killing of a senior intelligence officer in July last year. He is also being suspected to be a member of Al-Shabaab terrorist group.

Inspector Peter Munguti in his application told the court that security agents need more time to analyse his mobile phones to assist in the investigation.

“I need more time to interrogate the respondent, analyse his mobile phones and record statements from relevant witnesses,” the prosecution said.

Magistrate Njagi ordered for the accused to be detained for 15 days at Port Police Station pending the next case hearing.

The case will be mentioned on January 23.
