A suspect linked to a terror attack in Lamu County has been set free by a Mombasa Court due to lack of evidence.
The accused, Mr Shee Mohammed Kale was arraigned in court to answer to charges of allegedly being a member of the terror group, al-Shabaab.
Mr Kale was also linked to an attack at Milimani Village in Lamu that left six Administration Police (AP) officers dead and others with serious injuries.
Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo in his ruling dropped the charges against Mr Kale after the police failed to produce evidence against him before the court.
During the case hearing, the officers told the court that they were unable to find any evidence to prefer terror and murder charges against Mr Kale.
The Anti-Terror Police Unit however asked Magistrate Odenyo to order Mr Kale to be taken to Lamu West for further action.
The accused who was arrested by Anti-Terror Police Unit on February 21, 2016 at Mazeras in Kaloleni area, Kilifi County denied the charges before the court.
He had been detained for 14 days at Central Police Station after the police believed that he was an al-Shabaab member suspected to being the key planner and coordinator of the attack in Milimani village, Lamu County.
The court heard that the attack which occurred on January 26, 2016 left six police officers dead, while several others sustained serious injuries.
