The case against a terrorism suspect was on Monday transferred by a Mombasa Court over security concerns.

Mombasa Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi ordered the case against Mr Lukeman Khatib be heard at Shanzu Law Court following an application by the prosecutor.

State Counsel Shakwilla Ayekha filed an application before the court to have the accused who is facing six counts of robbery with violence and is also being suspected to be a member of the terror group the Al Shabaab be conducted from Shanzu Maximum prison.

Prosecutor Ayekha told the court that the accused’s accomplices who are still at large may ambush the prison security vehicle while transporting the suspect to court in an attempt to rescue him.

“We have security intelligence that the suspect’s accomplices might try to rescue him while he’s being transferred for his case hearing at the Mombasa Law Court. I ask the court that his case be transferred to Shanzu Law Courts,” said the prosecutor.

Magistrate Shitubi in her ruling allowed the application by prosecutor Ayekha saying “Due to security concerns and in the interests of the public safety, I allow the application that the case be heard at Shanzu Law Court.”
