It is no secret that Nakuru is growing. Proof of this is the never ending construction of buildings within and without town, and the ever growing population.

In 2011, the United Nations ranked Nakuru the fastest developing town in Africa.  According to the UN, the town is growing at 13 per cent per annum!

If these statics are anything to go by, then Nakuru town has grown by over 50 per cent in just four years!

When did all this begin? 2007. The nation is at war in what has come to be known as post-election violence.

Friend turned foe and neighbour turned against neighbour. People are displaced from their homes and forced to look for new homes.

They found a safe haven in Nakuru. They came from as far as Kisumu and found refuge here.

Content with the life here, a vast majority opted to make it their permanent residence. There was hence a surge in population.

More people means a wider market. Before long, investors from various businesses started setting up shop and thus began the transformation of Nakuru.

People need roofs over their heads right? Realtors soon came calling in large numbers and apartments were erected here, there and everywhere.

There was also need for banking and shopping facilities, and a majority of banks and supermarkets opened a branch or two here.

They say every dark cloud has a silver lining and as far as post-election violence is concerned, Nakuru is that silver lining.
