In life we pay for change, so make every second worth it, says Ludacris.

In fact, everyone is itching for happiness but only scratching the surface. Well, this is not the case for Christonymph Wambui Mburu, a Form Three student at Upper Hill Mixed Secondary School in Nakuru County.

February 1, 2016 will forever be memorable to 75 needy and bright students from Nakuru County. It was the day that they all received full scholarships from Equity Bank’s, Wings to Fly Foundation, in a morning event that was officially launched by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.

But for Christonymph, perhaps will even think of this day more than anybody else, more like a voter’s index finger on a indelible ink.

According to a Public Relations officer at the county headquarters, Christonymph was sent home two weeks ago from school for having not paid the terminal fee of Sh12,000, and an earlier on balance of Sh2,000.

The girl, dressed in green uniform, was present at the event which ended at 1pm. She, however, did not receive the Equity scholarship and was downcast.

With an outstanding fee balance of Sh14, 000, she couldn’t be in school like any other student.

Moreover, her parents are casual labourers and do not have a regular income, leave alone for basic needs.

So she went to the county headquarters and stood by the gate until she caught the governor’s attention, whom she hoped would remember her as she had once recited a poem to him when he visited her school last year.

The governor, growing curious of the girl, set to inquire about her.

Although smiling but very close to shedding tears, she narrated her nerve-jarring ordeal that threatened her academic pursuits.

She explained her case that really moved the governor. It is at this moment that the county boss swung into action, assuring her that her outstanding fees balance had been settled.

Moreover, as he addressed the audience who had attended the event, he pointed out her plight and requested the bursary committee chairman who was present, to consider her for support and ensure she gets help for her outstanding school fee balance.

With such a gesture, the message was such voluminous, that got me wrack my brain and suddenly from the blues a quote came to my mind.

If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you're not sure you can do it, say "Yes", then learn how to do it later, said Richard Branson.

This was an ideal case of not allowing experiences to ever make one miss an opportunity.
