Speaking in Kwandolo Village on Monday morning, the area assistant chief, Simon Katema, has called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to intervene due to the animal invasions.

"We are asking our government through KWS to act fast as the animal which has her young one has invaded our farms and destroyed a lot of maize beans and even banana plantations, "said Katema.

He further explained that the animals are a great threat to the children and even residents as they are appearing in the evening around 6 a.m.

"The hippos resurface even before darkness in the evening and this endangers people who have businesses and children in school," he added.

This comes barely a week after residents of Nguumo in Yatta Sub-County, complained of hippopotamus from the Athi River destroying plants in the Shamba. However, commenting on the same, the deputy director of KWS in Donyo Sabuk, Thomas Mailu, has stated he will ensure a step will be taken towards the issue.
