As the fight to stabilise talent among the youths in Kenya toughens, Kiambu County has decided to start a talent search in the county.
The exercised will be organised by the education, culture and social services department whose mandate is to identify talent in the area, recognise and support artists. The artists will also be paid for their performances as a motivation factor.
Among the categories competitors that will participate are music and dance, poetry, drama, narratives and other cultural activities.
Confirming this, the cultural executive, Esther Ndirangu said Kiambu County is set to build cultural centres which will be used as venues and platforms of the competition in all sub-counties in the area. However, the public will be allowed to access the centres at a fee, charged at the entrance.
Ms Ndirangu revealed that the entry fee will be given to participants as their pay.
‘‘This money will be given to artists as their pay,’’ she said.
The building of cultural centres has already started in three sub-counties in the area but it is being treated as a pilot test for other sub counties. The three are Limuru, Thika and Kabete as quoted by the Star.
