A tout, also known as a manamba is the guy who ushers you into a matatu and collects his dues, sorry, fare, when the right time comes.

They are guys of influence in society in many ways, but more so economically and socially.

Economically:

These guys are big spenders, they spend more than the owner of the matatu. A manamba is a person who will boast about how last night he made more than 1k and after finishing the story asks you to buy him chapati madondo. He is broke, he spent all the money the same night, mind you he closed shop at 10pm, and by 11 am the next morning, he is dead broke! "Where did the money go while you were sleeping bru?" is the question I ask myself.

Socially:

These our brothers are ladies men. Girls love touts. Anyway, a majority of women would fall for a guy who handles cash and talks of "gari yangu". He will brag about it; "gari yangu" until an accident occurs and then you'll hear him say;"pigia mwenyewe". These guys hit and score on all types of women, from the young to the old, house helps to miss independent. Even the married ones are not spared either. As they usually say, "kila kitu kaa ndani!" And once a lady starts dating a tout, even if they break up, she will still date in the industry, she will be moving from one "manyanga" to the next one, until she goes full circle. Then they would brand her "mapipa"

Lastly, these brothers stand up for another. They protect their own and will fight for their own. That is a matatu tout's life in Nakuru.
