Thika Sub-County Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Joe Mungai has cautioned candidates preparing to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) against cheating.
Speaking to journalists at Thika town on Monday, Mungai instead urged the KCPE candidates to use their time well in preparation for the examinations slated for tomorrow.
He said that cheating in examinations is a crime that every student should avoid.
The KNUT official also asked the government through the Ministry of Education to put in place measures that will curb cheating.
“The government should streamline its coordination and supervision of exams to curb cheating,” he advised.
The Thika KNUT official said the government has resources and mechanisms that can adequately curb cheating.
He said that several cases of alleged cheating in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have tainted the image of the education sector.
Mungai called for stern action against individuals said to be leaking examinations to students.
The standard eight examinations are scheduled to start tomorrow.
Over 900,000 candidates according to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) are set to sit for the exams.
In Kiambu, candidates have been assured of security by the county commissioner Mr Alex Nkoyo who said police will conduct patrols across schools.
