Thika nominated MCA Florence Ngeru has urged the government to train inmates as a way of reforming them.

Addressing inmates at the Thika Main Prison on Friday, the MCA said that inmates can be empowered through training.

She stated that training inmates will give them another chance in life and also give them an opportunity to take part in development.

“The government should include training as part of the reforms in our Prisons so that inmates can have skills that will help them cope with life once they are out of prison,” she said.

The nominated MCA noted that most of the inmates have skills that need to be nurtured through training.

Ms Ngeru also asked prison authorities to take inmates through counseling.

She said that inmates encounter various changes while in prison hence the need for counseling.

At the same time, the nominated MCA urged inmates at the Thika Women Prison to shun drugs and other activities that will cause them more trouble while in prison.

Ms Ngeru and other leaders presented gifts to the inmates at the Thika Prison as they ushered in the new year.
