Thika Town Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a has asked youth in the constituency to keep off drugs and alcohol this festive season.

Speaking to journalists after presenting driving licenses to 22 local chiefs in Thika Town on Tuesday, the MP told young people to stay off activities that will tempt them to indulge in alcohol consumption.

She said that young people are likely to be swayed into drinking and abusing drugs this festive season.

The Thika lawmaker said that drug and alcohol abuse has shuttered the lives of many youth adding that it will be important for them to take part in alternative productive activities.

“I am appealing to youth across Thika and Kiambu as a whole to desist from acts that will cause them to indulge in alcohol consumption,” she said.

The MP further asked reformed alcoholics to take part in activities that will foster development, adding that reformed alcoholics are likely to resort back to drinking if they are not given jobs.

Ng’ang’a asked the Kiambu government to provide job opportunities to reformed alcoholics so that they can take part in development.

At the same time, the Thika legislator appealed to chiefs in the constituency to continue the crackdown on illicit brews.

The MP noted that several cases of illicit brewing have been reported in the area.

“We should not get tired of fighting the illicit brew menace as it poses danger to our society,” she said.

The MP said that she will continue to support programmes aimed at empowering young people in the constituency and across Kiambu County.
