Five people believed to be thugs were on Monday gunned down on Thika road by police.

The five were alleged to be fleeing from the police who had been keenly monitoring them. One of the police officers sustained a bullet injury in the chest but is receiving treatment at the GSU hospital.

Confirming the incident, Starehe OCPD, Alice Kimeli said police had been tipped off about the thugs and decided to act on it. She said the police followed the thugs from Westlands and ordered them to stop, however, they defied the order leading to an exchange of fire between them and the police.

‘‘The five were among a wanted gang that had been terrorising city residents,’’ said Ms Kimeli.
