Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira has vowed to crackdown on people said to be re-introducing illicit brews and second generation brews in the area.

Mr Thuranira warned that anyone found engaging in illicit brew trade will face the full force of the law.

The OCPD said police and local chiefs will step up operations in areas they suspected the illegal trade is being conducted.

Thuranira asked residents who have information on people taking part in illicit brew trade to report to the police.

“For us (law enforcers) to effectively wipe out and eradicate illicit brews, we will need the support and cooperation of residents,” he said when he addressed journalists at Ruiru police station on Wednesday.

The Ruiru OCPD further put on notice pubs and bars allowing access to underage people.

He said that police are acting on information that some bars could be selling alcohol to under-age.

The Ruiru OCPD warned that licenses of such bars will be revoked and owners prosecuted.

There have been concerns over re-emergence of illicit brews and second generation alcoholic drinks in some parts of Kiambu.

On Wednesday when he visited the Thika Main Prison, Kiambu governor William Kabogo told police to intensify the war on illicit brews.

The governor asked the police and local chiefs to comb through the areas and ensure that illicit trade is completely eradicated.
