A section of elders in Ting’ang’a Ward in Kiambu Constituency have blamed moral decay among the youth on the western cultures.
The elders said that the African moral fabric has been tarnished by western behaviour and it is high time elders and the community took the initiative to nurture good morals among the youth.
Joshua Irungu an elder in Ting’ang’a, said that young people have been consumed by immoral western behaviour.
He noted that many youth have copied the western culture and abandoned their cultural beliefs and norms.
“It is unfortunate that our young people don’t value their tradition and African culture and have instead adopted some cultures which are decretory to the African values,” he said.
Mr Irungu said that it is time for community elders to step in and provide direction to the young people.
While reacting to the Project X party that was scheduled to take place in Kileshwa during the weekend, Peter Njoroge an elder said that the youthful generation is getting lost.
He blamed parents for failing to nurture their children into the right way.
“Parents and society at large have failed on their role of nurturing good behaviour among the youth,” he said.
Mr Njoroge blamed the emergence of technology and more so the internet, for moral decay in the society. He called on the government to set in place polices that will regulate the use of internet.
The Project X party that was set to take place this weekend elicited harsh reactions from a section of leaders and Kenyans.
The party was however banned by police after it was linked to drug abuse and other immoral acts.
