A Matatu tout was on Monday electrocuted in Thika’s Kiganjo Estate road as he tried to drag a live electric wire out of the road.
The electric wires had fallen due to the heavy downpour experienced in the area.
Thika Police boss Erastus Muthamia rushed to the scene accompanied by other officers and found a crowd of onlookers. The scene was characterised by heavy traffic as motorists feared passing past the live wires.
The officer said the death was unnecessary as it was something avoidable. He warned residents to take caution and avoid interfering with Kenya Power equipment in future.
An eyewitness who preferred to remain anonymous explained that the death was caused by the ignorance of the deceased who was in a hurry to carry passengers.
“Take caution and avoid interfering with Kenya Power equipment in future especially now we have the heavy rains since some poles may fall as this area is swampy. Care about your life before you think of touching a live cable,” the officer said.
He said there was a heavy downpour and flood water was running down the road.
Witnesses said he was warned by the crowd at the scene not to drag the wire with his bare hands which he ignored and decided to remove it to clear the way for the motor vehicle.
The body of the diseased was taken Thika general Kago funeral home.
