The residents of Kibera's' Lindi village are saying their businesses are now operating at low profits since the beginning of the year.

They claim that since the year begun, the proceeds from their ventures have sharply dropped forcing them to look for alternative means to survive with their families.

Contrary to their new year expectations, the ambitions and hopes they had, will clearly not materialize. They blame their predicaments on the extravagant spending habits during the festivities that eventually left residents broke.

A second-hand salesman, Tom Juma, says that the gains he is making in his business on a daily basis have dropped by over 50%. He used to make over sh700 in profits late last year but is now forced to go home with a paltry figure of sh300 at the end of the day. But he is hopeful that things will get better towards the end of the month.

A resident of the area, Alice Ojwang, said they had to review their spending habits if they want to be able to survive in January, a month they claim is a month of doom.
